A Celebration. A Farewell. A Legacy.
For over a decade, hotbox studio (aka M Gallery) has been a quiet spark in Calgary’s creative scene. An artist-curated gallery born from resilience, loss, and the love of making. What began as a small rebuilt space after the 2012 fire became a haven for ceramicists, painters, sculptors, and dreamers.
Now, as the curtains close, we invite you to gather one last time. To share art, stories, and the spirit that made this place so unforgettable.

A Brief History
In 2012, lightning struck the Solid Woodwork building, igniting a fire that reshaped its structure and its destiny. When the ashes settled, a small unused space remained. Two years later, following the sudden passing of his mother, Eric Sundstrom transformed that space into something beautiful: a gallery dedicated to her ceramics and woodblock prints.
That first show brought both closure and community. It marked the birth of hotbox studio, which went on to host eleven more exhibitions and even an evening of Shakespeare by Bob Greenwood. Hotbox became a living time capsule of Calgary’s independent art scene, until the pandemic drew its final curtain.
Now, we open our doors one last time to honour the artists who shaped this story.
